The Journey of Turning Dreams into Reality

“How long would it take for our logo to be on top of a building?” my wife asked, gazing at the Singapore Airlines logo atop a skyscraper from our tiny 5×5 office window. A simple question that ignited a journey spanning over a decade.

Back then, it felt like a distant dream—a vision too big for where we were. Our focus was on immediate tasks: building our tech company, creating products, and delivering services. But that dream stayed with us, quietly guiding every decision we made.

At the time, it was just the three of us—my wife, my partner, and me—in that tiny 5×5 office. We were fueled by excitement and ambition. Slowly but surely, we expanded: first to a 10×10 office with four staff members, then to a larger space with six more employees. Each move felt like progress—a small but significant milestone.

Eventually, we relocated to the Manhattan building in Chinatown, growing to a team of ten. As our tech business flourished, we ventured into recruitment—placing talent in white-collar industries. This led us to purchase part of a building, which became home to thirty employees.

As our recruitment firm expanded into blue-collar sectors like construction and offshore engineering, our team grew even larger. Every step taught us something new. Every milestone boosted our confidence. Fourteen years later, we stood in front of our very own 10,000 square foot building. While the logo isn’t perched atop the skyline just yet, it proudly adorns our space—a testament to persistence and belief.

Our Journey Came Full Circle

The belief that anything is possible has become part of who we are. Every new goal feels within reach because we’ve learned that big dreams are achieved by starting small and staying consistent.

Today, our goals manifest faster because of the mindset we’ve built. If someone asked me about achieving an audacious dream now, I’d say: It’s just a matter of time.

It took us over a decade to truly believe that ambitious goals are possible—but only if you’re willing to start small, stay persistent, adapt along the way, and always keep your vision in sight.

Lessons Learned Along the Way

  • Start Small: Don’t be discouraged by humble beginnings; every big achievement starts with one small step.
  • Stay Persistent: Challenges will come—but persistence turns dreams into reality.
  • Adapt and Grow: Be flexible and open to change; growth often comes from unexpected directions.
  • Visualize Your Goals: Keep your vision front and center—whether through manifestation or creating a vision board.

Last week, I trekked part of the Great Wall of China—a reminder of how far we’ve come since sitting in that tiny office dreaming big dreams. Thankfully, it didn’t take as long as building the Great Wall itself—a 21,196 km-long marvel constructed over centuries using an estimated 3.8 billion bricks. That wall isn’t just stone and mortar; it’s a living metaphor for life, vision, and perseverance—just like our journey.

My Top 3 Learnings from the Trek

  1. How to Eat an Elephant One bite at a time. This trek reminded me that no matter how massive the task—whether it’s building a business or transforming your life—it all starts with one small step. Or as the Great Wall taught me: one brick at a time.

  2. Legacy Outlives the Builder The people who laid the first stones never saw the finished product—but their efforts created something monumental. Every effort we make today—even if it feels small—can benefit generations to come. Your sweat today can be someone else’s shelter tomorrow.

  3. Stand Strong Through All Seasons The wall has endured storms, wars, and centuries of change—but remains steadfast. Resilience is built by staying grounded through life’s challenges. Stand firm even when life tries to shake you loose.

Final Reflection

Big things don’t happen all at once—but years of consistent action can build something extraordinary. When you look back after years of effort, you’ll realize you were building your own Great Wall all along.
