Preparation

What is Spartan Race:

Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to a marathon. These races are held in the United States and have been franchised to 30 countries.

The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Spartan Super, the Spartan Beast, and the Spartan Ultra. Spartan Race also has a military series hosted on military bases. Spartan also holds winter and team events.

Spartan is an extreme wellness platform helping humans become UNBREAKABLE.

TRAINING SESSION:

We had 8 weeks to prepare for the Spartan race, so we started training in the evening, various endurance and HIIT training sessions. We bult and love and hate relation with the sessions, as they were gruesome but we were loving it too.

It took a while for us to get to hate and love relationship as initially it was only a hate one. Then we learned It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all.

WINNING – means you are willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else… Keep moving towards your goal.

You will never know your limits until you push yourself to them!!!

After 4 weeks of training, we could do 150 push-ups, 150 squats, 150 full sit-ups, and 4.5 km of running in less than an hour …. #spartanracesg

Fitness is not about being better than someone else … its about being better than you used to be…. yes, we are guilty!! we killed the workouts.

Training for #spartanracesg keep getting interesting — hanging from bars to being a murga to flexing our muscles to thumbs up and finally taking a picture for being alive after the circuit…

All set for the #spartanracesg tomorrow! – Every day above earth is a good day so tomorrow should be excellent

Sprint

It always seems impossible UNTIL IT IS DONE! – It started as a stepping stone but eventually became a milestone. What a day to be above the earth – the accomplishment is so close to my heart.

TIRE FLIP

Where do you go to practice flipping a tire this massive and heavy? A mine, probably. Better do some technique research grasshopper, because this rubber monster requires you to transform yourself into a human lever and channel epic strength to flip it over, then back again. Men’s tires weigh 400 lb (181 kg), women’s 200 lb (90 kg). Yeah, that’s right

BARBED WIRE CRAWL

Wire obstacles were used during the Civil War to slow the enemy, and since then armed forces around the world have made this a staple of basic obstacle courses. Check out Spartan Training to learn the various methods of getting through like the bear crawl, the army crawl, and shrimping.

STAIRWAY TO SPARTA

Comes into play at Super, Beast, and Ultra levels. This is a narrow ‘A’ shaped obstacle with a smooth three-foot wall at its base, followed by horizontal ladder rungs up and over the other side. In Beast mode, the rungs are replaced with rock climbing handholds. Check out a panoramic view of the course around you from the top.

Super

This is something crazy that I embarked on. One of my friends backed out of the sprint race because of his knee injury. I was originally registered for Super race, after coming to know he won’t participate I planned to participate and complete both races on same day (the Sprint and the Super).

SANDBAG CARRY

Spartan sandbags come in various shapes and weigh 60 lb (27 kg) for men / 40 lb (18 kg) for women. This isn’t like carrying a bag of groceries. You’ll usually find the Sandbag Carry on uneven ground, in mud, or if you’re particularly (un)lucky, up the side of a ski slope.

FIRE JUMP

The iconic finish line obstacle. Proof you’re truly a Spartan means you need at least a few fire jump photos to show off to your friends. Some go for hangtime, others tap an ankle, tuck jump, or join hands with friends. Just don’t land in the fire.

This was priceless as I have completed both Sprint and Super in one day, which if not tougher than Beast was equivalent to Spartan Beast Race.

My biggest support comes from Anita, she can to transport me to home for food and 1 hour rest before I embark on the second race on the same day.

Travel

Final training before we go for the Spartan Beast. As Singapore was not hosting Spartan Beast race for the year, we all decided to go to Malaysia to complete the Spartan Beast race, otherwise we would not be able to get the trifecta.

A Team that has a character doesn’t need stimulation…. Going to tame the Beast.

We all embarked on a road trip, its was 450km from Singapore to Putrajaya, Malaysia.

It won’t be easy, but there is no better feeling than the Spartan Medal around your neck after you fly across the finish line.

Next day 9th October 2016 the 21-kilometre Beast with more than 30 Signature Spartan Obstacles and your final hurdle on the #RoadToTrifecta was waiting for us.

We knew the Beast will test not only our endurance, perseverance and grit, but also our mind. So planned to relax as much as we can the evening before.

Beast

Strength comes in numbers – and so does fun!

SANDBAG CARRY

Hard men and women like sandbags. If you’re racing Age Group or Elite categories, you’ll have competitors running with theirs and bearing down on you.

SLIP WALL

It didn’t take long to name this obstacle, but it will take you a while to get up and down the other side. This sloping metal ramp is wet and often covered in mud. For Sprints there’s long ropes, Supers and Beasts have short ropes, and there’s times there are no ropes at all. You’ll smell smoke from fire jump at the finish line while you slip and slide repeatedly back down to the start.

9th October 2016. –  Completed the #Spartanbeast!

Life is one time OFFER, use it well …. Well used 36 HOURS!!! … “Drove 850 km, Tamed the beast #SpartanBeast at Putrajaya,

Completed the Trifecta #SpartanTrifecta (All 3 races Sprint, Super & Beast)

Completion

Commitment means staying LOYAL to what you said you were going to do long AFTER the MOOD, you said it in has LEFT you!

We planned to take photos celebrating our completion of the races, some funny movements that we shared as a team.

The excitement of completing the race left one song humming in our heads… “I believe I can fly; I believe I can touch the sky”.

That concluded our journey and the target we set for ourself of completing all 3 spartan races and get the trifecta
